It has now become illegal not to offer a breastfeeding room in Kenya. The Breastfeeding Mothers Bill of 2019 tabled in the National Assembly makes it compulsory for all persons who own, lease or rent buildings holding at least 50 people to provide a lactation room.

A fine of up to Ksh1,000,000 ($10,000) to employers who fail to adhere to the requirements of providing a lactating room.

If you are an employer, with workforce of more than 50, it is important to take note of this legislation and provide for a breastfeeding room (Mothers Room).

However, it is important for all employers to provide for this important facility, even though the workforce is less than 50.
